My dad Joseph was born in Belfast on the 23rd January 1958 & was the eldest son of Patrick & Mary Meehan. He & his 4 brothers & 3 sisters were brought up in a part of Belfast known as the Pound Loney...sadly that has long since gone. Dad would often recall fond memories of his childhood and the love he felt for his parents was clear with every memory he shared. Although dad didnt like school much, he & his mate Billy attended both St.Comgalls primary & St Peters secondary schools together. Dad really didnt like secondary school at all and couldnt wait till he left in 1972. Dad started working as a van boy for the Belfast Telegraph, he had some great mates and a job he loved..."life was great" he'd often say. Sadly, the death of his mother Mary in 1974 & the loss of 3 very good friends meant it was time for dad to make some life-changing decisions & when the opportunity to start a new life in England, came along, dad took it as a sign & left his homeland & headed for Manchester.
